Construction of a Lignite Powered Heating Station
According to the Ministry of Coal Industry of Ukraine, brown coal is a valuable raw material for thermal energy. Future development of the coal industry is associated with the use of lignite at power stations, in particular, construction of lignite powered stations with total capacity of 600-800 MW.
Experimental pilot studies by the Institute of Coal Energy Technologies of the National Academy of Science and the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine confirmed the efficiency of combustion of the Dnieper basin brown coal in circulating fluidized beds. Given the technology, efficiency of fuel usage reaches 98%, while emissions of sulfur oxide and nitrogen do not exceed 200 mg/m3, which allows to consider this technology as environmentally friendly.
Ash resulting from combustion process is used for cement, gravel or concrete production.
Construction of a lignite powered heating station will allow to:
• increase energy independence of Ukraine
• improve the environment
• modernize the traditional park of thermal stations.
The project of a lignite powered heating station is a priority for the Energy Investment Company and is under development.
