Development of the Aleksandriya Deposit of Brown Coal
The Energy Investment Company is developing a part of the Oleksandriya deposit of brown coal, which is located in the Dnieper brown coal basin in the town of Oleksandriya, Kirovohrad region. Reserves of lignite deposits in Oleksandriya are estimated at 485 million tons, including 63 million tons for surface mining.
Its development began in the early 20th century, although intensive development started in the 60-ies. Oleksandriya quarry was the main source of brown coal in Ukraine, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union production gradually declined. In 2008, the mine went into decline.
The Energy Investment Company has restored distribution of coal extracted from the Oleksandriya deposit. In addition, the Company has restored the transport infrastructure, repaired railway and technological tracks. Such actions were a first step to recovery of the lignite industry of Ukraine.
