Development of the Mokra Kalyhirka Deposit of Brown Coal
The Energy Investment Company develops Mokra Kalyhirka deposit of brown coal, which is located in the central part of the Dnieper brown coal basin (Vatutinj geological and industrial area), Katerynopil district of the Cherkasy region. The deposit was first discovered in 1947 during exploration works. Exploration was carried out intermittently from 1947 to 1983.
Today, the Mokra Kalyhirka deposit of brown coal is the main source of brown coal in Ukraine. The State Balance of Mineral Reserves as of January 1, 2010 states that the deposit of brown coal at the Mokra Kalyhirka are as follows (thousand tons):
- Balance deposit: B-4551, C1-3209, B + C1-7760
- Out-of-balance deposits: 5352
Production is performed at an open-pit mine.
