Statistics Of Coal And Lignite Consumption by Thermal Power Plants in Ukraine
Consumption of coal by thermal power plants of Ukraine in September 2012 increased by 184.7 thousand tons or 7.2% compared to the same period last year, up to 2 million 755.5 thousand tons. Its share in the total consumption of coal increased by 0.8% and accounted 54.6%, according to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.
The government has been implementing the policy of transfer of thermal power plants and to coal in order to reduce energy dependence of Ukraine on external gas supplies.
From the beginning of the year, TPPs of Ukraine have consumed 24 million 270.4 thousand tons of coal, which is 843 tons or 3.6% more than in 2011. The share of TPPs in total coal consumption in Ukraine in January- September 2012 was 53.4% compared to 55% last year.
According to the Ministry, over 9 months of 2012, consumption of coal in Ukraine has increased by 2 million 906.2 thousand tons (6.8%) and amounted to 45 million 482.6 thousand tons. In particular, in September it increased by 264.8 thousand tons (5.5%) to 5,044 million tons.
Over the first 9 months of 2012, Ukraine produced 64 million 199.6 thousand tons of coal, which is 3 million 427.5 thousand tons or 5.6% more than in January-September 2011.
